Thai Women’s Volleyball Team Falls Short Against Ukraine in 2026 Women’s Nations League Opener

Bangkok: The Thai women's volleyball team was unable to withstand Ukraine in their opening match of the 2026 Women's Nations League, losing 2-3 sets. The match took place at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mak, where the Thai national team, ranked 24th in the world, faced Ukraine, ranked 16th, in their first game of this round. Thai head coach Kiattipong Ratchatagriengkrai fielded a starting six consisting of captain Pornpun Guedparach, Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Thaddao Nuekjeng, Pimpichaya Kokram, Sasipaporn Chantavisut, and Kaewkallaya Kamulthala, with libero Piyanut Pannoy.

According to Thai News Agency, Ukraine was led by star hitter Oleksandr Milenko. In the first set, both teams fought evenly, with Ajcharaporn Kongyot consistently scoring points for Thailand. However, towards the end of the set, the Ukrainian team finished their scoring better, leading to a 23-25 loss for Thailand. In the second set, the Ukrainian team started making errors, while the Thai players regained confidence, scoring consistently and eventually winning 25-19, leveling the match at 1-1 sets. The two teams continued to fight fiercely, with Ukraine winning the third set 28-26, while Thailand secured the fourth set with a score of 25-22. The match went to a deciding set, where the Thai team fought valiantly but couldn't withstand the pressure, losing 10-15.
