Bangkok: The Thai women's volleyball team fought valiantly but lost 2-3 to Ukraine in their opening match of VNL Week 2. They will have a rematch tonight against Bulgaria.
According to Thai News Agency, in the second week of the 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) at Indoor Stadium Hua Mak, the Thai national volleyball team suffered a narrow 2-3 set defeat against Ukraine in their opening match. Coach Kiattipong Ratchatagriengkrai fielded a strong starting lineup led by captain Pornpun Guedparach, along with Thaddao Nuekjaeng, Acharaaporn Kongyot, Pimpichaya Kokram, Sasipaporn Chantavisut, and Kaewkallaya Kamulthala.
The game was close and exciting. In the first set, the Thai women faltered towards the end and lost 23-25, but they rallied to win the second set 25-19, leveling the score at 1-1. The third set was fiercely contested, going to deuce before Thailand narrowly lost 26-28. However, in the fourth set, the Thai women fought back valiantly, winning 25-22. The match went to a deciding fifth set, where Ukraine played more consistently and won 15-10, securing a 3-2 victory over Thailand.
