Bangkok: The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand recently hosted a grand ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand. This event also coincided with the 81st National Day of Vietnam. Approximately 1,000 attendees, including prominent Thai officials such as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vichavat Isarabhakdi, former Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun, and President of the Thai-Vietnam Friendship Association Sanan Angubolkul, joined diplomats and Vietnamese representatives to mark this significant milestone.
According to Thai News Agency, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung highlighted the vibrant relationship over the past 50 years, noting the strategic understanding and trust between the two nations. He discussed the new direction set by the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2026, which focuses on double-digit economic growth, enhancing technological capabilities, and advancing foreign policy based on strategic independence and self-reliance.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wichawat Isarabhakdi noted the significance of 2026, marked by key diplomatic visits from Vietnam's General Secretary and President To Lam to Thailand in May, and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's visit to Vietnam in June. These visits are seen as crucial in furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership and fostering economic and cultural connections to strengthen ASEAN in the next 50 years.
The celebration featured cultural exchanges, such as a performance by artists from the Ho Chi Minh City College of Music, blending Vietnamese and Thai music. Attendees also enjoyed demonstrations of Hue royal court cuisine and an exhibition of photographs documenting the diplomatic history between the two nations since 1976. Additionally, a painting exhibition titled "Colors of Friendship" depicted the cultural ties and lifestyles shared by both countries.
