Thailand Gears Up for SEA Games 2025 with 61-Day Countdown

Bangkok: The Sports Authority of Thailand is spearheading a nationwide initiative inviting Thai citizens to participate in the 61-day countdown to the 33rd SEA Games, which the country is set to host.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, the Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, along with other officials, marked the beginning of the countdown. They are also looking forward to hosting the 13th ASEAN Para Games, under the campaign “Countdown together Thailand.” This campaign aims to engage the Thai populace in the preparations to ensure Thailand is a welcoming host.

The forthcoming SEA Games promise to elevate the level of competition, featuring over 50 sports. Among these, 27 are Olympic sports and 9 are part of the Asian Games. Additionally, several other sports will be featured on an international platform.

Dr. Kongsak provided updates on the event preparations, confirming the completion of budget allocations for the 2026 fiscal year, which ensures financial support for each sports association. Public relations campaigns will now commence to boost public engagement and awareness. For the group stage of the football competition, three stadiums have been designated: Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Tinsulanon Stadium in Songkhla, and the 700th Anniversary of Chiang Mai Stadium. The final will take place at Rajamangala National Stadium. A final decision on these arrangements will follow a joint meeting with the opening and closing ceremonies committee and discussions with the Football Association of Thailand.

The 2025 SEA Games are slated to occur from December 9-20 across three main provinces: Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.
