Thailand Introduces Comprehensive Mobile-Based Disaster Alert System

Bangkok: The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has announced the development of a comprehensive system designed to issue warnings about all types of disasters. This innovative system aims to enhance public safety by expanding beyond traditional alert methods.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, presided over the event that launched the public relations campaign for the project. The new system, titled "Beyond the Public Alerts," is a mobile phone-based disaster alert mechanism designed to transcend existing notification limitations. Mr. Pongsitthaworn highlighted the project's significance in addressing Thailand's longstanding need for an efficient disaster alert system that covers not only natural calamities like floods and earthquakes but also other public emergencies such as infrastructure failures or aviation incidents.

The primary goal of this early warning system is to ensure alerts are emitted from all devices in a specified area without relying on internet connectivity. This initiative aims to increase public awareness and safety by reaching everyone without the necessity of installing additional applications. By providing accurate and timely alerts, the system is expected to minimize loss of life and property, ultimately reducing government expenditure on compensation and relief operations.
