New York City:The Thai government reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a balanced relationship with both the United States and China, emphasizing mutual interests and neutrality to work effectively with both nations.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthamphan addressed this diplomatic stance after discussions with the Prime Minister and global financial leaders at the Bank of America Roadshow in New York. Suthamphan highlighted that investors have shown significant interest in Thailand, attributed to the country's improved performance, enhanced credit rating, and favorable stock market returns.
Investors questioned Thailand's policy concerning its relations with the US and China. The Thai representatives clarified that both countries are crucial allies, and Thailand's balanced approach enables productive collaboration with these superpowers based on shared interests.
During the roadshow, the Prime Minister also discussed topics such as energy transition, digital technology, and food security, promoting Thailand's strengths. He assured investors of Thailand's adherence to fiscal discipline, maintaining borrowing within set limits, which has been well-received by the investment community.
Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Mr. Chaiyanonk Chidchob, noted investor interest in data centers, stressing the importance of environmental sustainability and developing a long-term ecosystem over short-term investments.
With US data centers facing political and social challenges, investors are considering international expansion. Thailand, positioned as the "Heart of ASEAN," offers substantial benefits due to its strategic location, infrastructure, and internet connectivity. A data center in Thailand could serve the ASEAN market of 750 million people, beyond its domestic population. However, the Prime Minister has mandated that regulations be crafted to allow Thailand to select investors strategically, focusing on those who offer the greatest value rather than simply exploiting resources.
