Thailand Narrowly Defeated by China in Women’s Volleyball Nations League

Nanjing: The Thai women's volleyball team was outplayed by China, losing 2-3 sets in the 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League. According to Thai News Agency, the Thai team, ranked 19th globally, faced off against the 7th-ranked Chinese team in Nanjing, China, for their second match of the first leg of VNL 2026. The Chinese team was spearheaded by their prominent hitter, Yu Xuan Shuang. The Thai squad, led by captain "Chompoo" Pornpan Guedparach, included players Sasipaporn Chantavisut, Thaddao Nuekjaeng, and Pimpichaya Kokram. In the initial set, Thailand was defeated 14-25. The second set saw a comeback with Pimpichaya Kokram, Thaddao Nuekjaeng, and Atcharaporn Kongyot scoring consistently, resulting in a 26-24 win for Thailand. The third set, however, was dominated by China, ending 19-25. Set four was a hard-fought battle, with Thailand emerging victorious at 25-23, pushing the match into a deciding final set. Despite their efforts, Thailand succumbed to pressure, losing the final set 7-15, and ultima tely the match 2-3. Nevertheless, the team managed to secure their first point in the league. "Coach Ott" Kiatipong Ratchatagriangrai, head coach of the Thai team, acknowledged that while the team performed well at times and won some sets, there were instances where the execution faltered. Players Thaddao Nuekjaeng and Pimpichaya Kokram expressed their disappointment with the fifth set's outcome, noting a lack of composure. Thailand's next challenge will be against Belgium on June 6th at 2:00 PM.
