Bangkok: Thailand has taken a significant step towards combating doping in sports by partnering with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to elevate its sports standards to a global level. Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, welcomed Mr. Witold Banka, President of WADA, and his delegation, along with Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, an International Olympic Committee member, for a crucial meeting aimed at exchanging information and strategies to tackle doping in sports. Key figures such as Mr. Paskorn Rangsiwattanasak, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, and other officials were also present during the discussions.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting focused on WADA's global anti-doping efforts and the importance of Thailand's cooperation in developing a transparent and fair sports system. The discussions highlighted the need for athlete education on rules, regulations, and doping testing procedures. Mr. Surasak emphasized Thailand's commitment to aligning its anti-doping system with international standards, including revising laws and enhancing the operational structures of anti-doping agencies.
Furthermore, the collaboration addressed Thailand's readiness to host and participate in international sporting events, ensuring athletes adhere to anti-doping rules and compete under the "clean sports" principle. WADA pledged ongoing support to Thailand, including legal, academic, and personnel training assistance, to ensure the effectiveness of its anti-doping measures, thereby boosting confidence in Thai sports on the global stage.
