Bangkok:Thailand is set to host the IMF-World Bank 2026 meeting, an event aimed at highlighting the nation's potential through its rich culture, diverse cuisine, and unique local ingredients.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Spokesperson Lalida Perisvivatana announced that the "IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026" will take place from October 12-18, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. This event is expected to draw over 15,000 participants from 191 countries, offering Thailand a platform to showcase its cultural and economic strengths.
The conference will serve as a global forum for economic and financial discussions, providing a short-term boost to local economies and long-term benefits such as increased investment in future industries and the creative economy. It aims to foster quality economic growth, human development, cultural preservation, and environmental protection.
Held under the theme "Thailand's New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience," the conference will focus on digital and AI transformation, opportunities for middle-sized countries, climate change adaptation, and promoting an economy that supports an aging society.
Thailand has planned a series of activities to highlight its identity, including a Thai Pavilion presentation, a photography exhibition titled "Visions of Thailand," and cultural demonstrations like Muay Thai. The event will also feature tourism showcases and parallel activities organized by the private sector and civil society, addressing topics like corruption prevention and corporate social responsibility.
The event will incorporate Thailand's soft power, using local fabrics and designs to decorate venues and showcasing local culture and cuisine. The culinary offerings will emphasize local ingredients and geographically indicated products, presenting dishes such as "Thai Heart Rice Salad" and "Dry-Aged Tilapia with Khao Yai Miso Sauce."
