Thailand Reaffirms Border Operations Are Lawful and Protective

Bangkok: Thailand reiterates that its operations are conducted under international law and are aimed at protecting its citizens. The Joint Press Center on the Thai-Cambodian border situation confirmed that Thailand is carrying out operations to protect its people and sovereignty under international law.

According to Thai News Agency, Thailand’s actions regarding the border situation in the past have been in legitimate self-defense under international law, primarily aimed at protecting the lives of its citizens and ensuring national security. There was no intention to escalate the conflict or threaten Cambodian civilians. Based on an assessment of the situation in the border area, the increased military capabilities of the Cambodian side have impacted the safety of the Thai population and critical infrastructure. Therefore, Thailand deemed it necessary to take limited, restricted countermeasures and use force only as necessary to end this threat.

Thailand reaffirms that its readiness and security capabilities are intended to defend against and control the situation, not to commit aggression.
