Thailand to Trial Tomorrow.io Weather Forecasting for Enhanced Flood Management

Bangkok: “Chaichanok” is advocating for Thailand to trial Tomorrow.io’s weather forecasting technology, anticipating quicker public awareness and improved governmental flood warnings.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, announced after a Cabinet meeting that collaboration with Tomorrow.io on flood disaster management is in progress. Recent environmental conditions have increased disasters globally, and Thailand has been affected by severe floods. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed the Cabinet to enhance disaster prevention efforts. The Ministry is considering a partnership with Tomorrow.io, a leading weather forecasting company, to pilot its services, including an AI-powered data analysis platform.

Tomorrow.io employs satellite technology to send microwaves through the atmosphere, analyzing cloud moisture levels to predict rain bombs. With 11 satellites already in space and plans for more, the company aims to provide increasingly accurate weather forecasts, enabling quicker public notifications and responses.

The customizable data display platform updates every 15 minutes, significantly improving Thailand’s current weather forecasting capabilities. The data can be turned into easily understandable messages for immediate public distribution, tailored to regional or community levels to assist citizens in their daily decisions.

Today’s Cabinet meeting approved a three-month trial of Tomorrow.io. During this period, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and relevant agencies will work to deploy detailed information. The Ministry of Interior recommends its use for decision-making authorities, including the Prime Minister and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, to enhance disaster management and public response.
