Bangkok: “Thammanat” has confirmed that the 2025 SEA Games opening ceremony is fully prepared, highlighting the government’s maximum efforts in organizing the event. He mentioned the Prime Minister’s concern for the safety of Cambodian athletes and the directive to enhance security measures. He urged political factions to refrain from criticizing those working on the preparations.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Captain Thamanat Phromphao, serving as Chairman of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), commented on the 33rd Southeast Asian Games hosted by Thailand. He expressed gratitude for the feedback regarding the SEA Games organization, affirming that Thailand is completely ready for the official opening ceremony.
Addressing concerns over the security of Cambodian athletes, Captain Thamanat acknowledged the Prime Minister’s worries, leading to intensified security measures. He recognized the sensitivity of the border issue between Thailand and Cambodia, noting the existence of an international sports committee. He warned that actions against Thailand could harm the sports community, but assured that security forces were actively providing protection.
When questioned about advising Thai fans against overreacting, Captain Thamanat mentioned that there were few Cambodian fans present in the stadium.
On whether the opening ceremony would resolve ongoing tensions, Captain Thamanat, in his role as SAT chairman, pledged to unite all relevant parties, particularly the sports associations, for a comprehensive meeting to ensure mutual support. He emphasized that association leaders and committee members are capable of independently resolving issues. Additionally, he appointed Police General Prachuab Wongsook, advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, to specifically oversee sports matters. A dedicated war room has been set up to address any arising issues. As the host country, he assured efforts to the fullest, requesting the public to observe the outcome of the opening ceremony. He conveyed confidence in the government’s and his commitment, with the Prime Minister closely monitoring the situation.
