Thammanat-Jubjib Lead Foundation’s Efforts in Hat Yai, Distributing Solar Panels and Relief Supplies

Hat yai: Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao and Jubjib led a foundation to Hat Yai to distribute solar panels and relief supplies to villagers who have been without electricity for several days following the worst flooding in a century.

According to Thai News Agency, on November 30, 2015, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, as chairman of the Thammanat Prompao Foundation for Charity, along with his wife, Thanaporn Sriwirat, or “Jubjib,” traveled to Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. They delivered solar panels and essential items, including clothing, common household medicines, food, and drinking water, to flood-affected residents in District 8, who are still experiencing power supply disruptions.

Lt. Col. Thammanat stated that although the water has receded, many communities still lack electricity. Staying in homes in darkness for several days poses risks, especially if candles are used. To prevent fires and alleviate hardship, the foundation has installed solar panels for temporary use by villagers until electricity from the Provincial Electricity Authority is restored.

During the visit, it was observed that many villagers had almost no belongings, with some families having only the clothes they wore. This situation is not an annual flood, but a once-in-a-century disaster, forcing many to start from scratch, according to Lt. Col. Thammanat.

Regarding budget assistance and relief measures, Lt. Col. Thammanat mentioned that the government will convene tomorrow (December 1, 2015), where additional measures are expected to be considered to address the severe damage.

Lt. Col. Thammanat also addressed the management of animal carcasses in the area, stating that Department of Livestock Development officials are continuously collecting nearly all of the remains to prevent public health problems. Songkhla Province will prepare a site to properly dispose of the animal carcasses.
