Hat yai: Thammanat and Jubjib spearheaded an initiative to aid Hat Yai, distributing solar panels and essential supplies to residents left without electricity following the worst flooding incident in a century.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, as chairman of the Thammanat Prompao Foundation for Charity, alongside his wife, Thanaporn Sriwirat, known as “Jubjib,” visited Hat Yai District in Songkhla Province. Their mission was to deliver solar panels and vital supplies, including clothing, household medicines, food, and drinking water, to the flood-affected residents of District 8, who are still experiencing power outages.
Lt. Col. Thammanat expressed concern over the ongoing lack of electricity in many communities despite the water receding. He highlighted the dangers of living in complete darkness, particularly the risk of fires from candle use. To mitigate these risks and provide some relief, the foundation installed solar panels for temporary use until the Provincial Electricity
Authority restores power.
During their visit, Lt. Col. Thammanat observed that many villagers had lost nearly all their possessions, with some families left with only the clothes on their backs. He described the situation as a once-in-a-century disaster, emphasizing the need for residents to rebuild their lives from scratch.
On the topic of budget assistance and relief measures, Lt. Col. Thammanat mentioned that the government will convene a meeting to consider additional measures to address the extensive damage caused by the floods, which is more severe than in previous years.
Lt. Col. Thammanat also addressed concerns about animal carcass management in the flood-affected areas. He assured that officials from the Department of Livestock Development are actively collecting the remains to prevent public health issues, and Songkhla Province is preparing a site for proper disposal of the carcasses.
