The baht fluctuates with the direction of Thai politics.

The baht fluctuated in the morning and strengthened, but weakened in the afternoon after learning that Prime Minister 'Srettha Thavisin' was out of office. We must closely monitor the political situation. Ms. Kanchana Chokpaisansin, Research Director, Kasikorn Research Center, said that today, the Thai baht was volatile. This morning, the baht reached its strongest level in 7 months since January 16, 2024 at 34.88 baht per dollar amid speculation that the Fed may cut interest rates by more than 25 basis points at the US Federal Reserve (FOMC) meeting in September. However, the baht moved in a more volatile range in the afternoon, with some points depreciating below the 35.00 baht per dollar level due to domestic political factors and foreign selling of Thai bonds. However, the baht strengthened again to around 34.90-34.92 baht per dollar (5:00 p.m.), which is stronger than yesterday's closing level of 35.16 baht per dollar, in line with the direction of regional currencies. Meanwhile, the dollar still lacks support as the market is still closely following the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures tonight. In this regard, the short-term baht framework is estimated to be 34.50-35.20 baht per dollar. The political situation in the future must be closely monitored. -511 Source: Thai News Agency
