The Ministry of Commerce postponed the announcement of the registration of shops to join the digital wallet due to concerns of confusion.

Phumtham" fears public confusion, requests postponement of announcement on registering shops to join "Digital Wallet" for 1 month, waiting for people to register as individuals first. Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, gave an interview to reporters at Ton Phayom Market, Tambon Suthep, Amphoe Mueang, Chiang Mai Province, that the Ministry of Commerce would like to postpone the announcement of the registration of shops to join the digital wallet tomorrow (5 August) to September to prevent confusion while people are in the process of registering via the government app and other channels that the government has specified to be complete first. Preparing the shops is the mission of the Ministry of Commerce, and it has been continuously preparing without any problems. Therefore, what we assess is that we do not want our brothers and sisters to be confused because now, more than 20 million people have registered for the digital wallet. Many are interested in registering. At t he same time, we have received various questions via the 1111 hotline asking what the problems are. It is normal that we are working on something new, and our brothers and sisters may still want to understand more in order to use the digital wallet with the highest efficiency. However, I think we should get through this period first, as the digital wallet will be released around November and October 1st is the period for registering merchants. There are still 2 months left, so the announcement was postponed to avoid confusion. Let's finish the registration and from now on, let's talk about merchants at once. Everything is ready now. The Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, has already inquired with various private agencies and shops. Currently, millions of people have already registered. After it is clear, we will tell which types of shops are in which order and what can be purchased so that shops can understand and proceed. The public must also understand because we will use logos for those who come to pay to make it clear. Please give us about 1 more month. If the individuals are registered, we will be ready to explain. We will create a video clip to help people understand this matter and will share it through online media, TV media, and all mainstream media to make it clear and not confusing. The Ministry of Commerce is ready. Source: Thai News Agency
