PHUKET, 5 July - After more than 300 millimeters of rain fell in Phuket Province, resulting in flash floods and forest runoff affecting a wide area of people, the Prime Minister is scheduled to travel to Phuket this afternoon (5 July) to monitor the care and assistance provided, while today Phuket has seen continuous rain again. Even though it has been 6 days since the flash floods hit many areas of Phuket, especially Kamala, which suffered the most damage, today the impacts from that day are still clearly visible, especially since people's houses have not yet been cleaned up, but today Phuket is experiencing more rain, which is making the suffering of the locals worse. This afternoon, Prime Minister Settha Thavisin is scheduled to travel to inspect the area himself. Since last night, Phuket has been experiencing heavy rain. Fortunately, this morning the rain stopped intermittently, falling and stopping alternately, allowing the villagers to breathe a sigh of relief because they were worried that the heavy rain would cause flash floods and mudslides, repeating the events of last Sunday. However, the overall weather conditions in Phuket are covered with thick dark clouds all over the island, and the waves in the sea are stronger than usual. Officials brought in backhoes to clear and dig the path to make way for the water to flow faster, to prevent further flooding after the rain falls again. While some houses of the villagers, up until now, still have mud piled up inside and have not finished cleaning. Many houses, even after cleaning, still do not dare to bring things down. They still keep them in high places after the Meteorological Department predicted that Phuket wil l have heavy rain until July 8. As for the furniture, bedding, electrical appliances and other properties that were previously submerged under water, they have been piled up in front because most of them are damaged and unusable. Villagers said that this flash flood and flooding is the worst in decades, especially houses built near the waterfall in Ban Hua Khuan, which receives water from the Kamala mountain range. The damage from the flash floods in Phuket has been widespread, affecting both the locals' livelihoods and tourism. Today, the Prime Minister is preparing to visit the affected areas to provide moral support and provide visits. While preventing and mitigating disasters in Phuket Province, the latest figures show that more than 2,000 villagers have been affected by the floods this time, more than 70 households, covering the areas of Thalang and Mueang Districts, including 7 sub-districts, 44 villages.
