The soil was transported to help block the flood, but the soil sank and the car fell into the water, crushing the body and killing the victim.

Sadly, a municipal employee has finished work but still volunteers, driving a 6-wheel truck carrying soil to help block the waterway. However, there was a ground subsidence, causing the truck to fall into the water. Officials tried to pull the body out, but it was too late to save it.

For more than 5 hours, officials and rescue workers tried to mobilize all their strength to help bring Mr. Preecha Wongnanta, 59 years old, an employee hired by the Pa Tan Nakrua Municipality, out from under a 6-wheeled dirt truck that slid into the Chang River in Mae Tha District, Lampang Province. The truck was almost completely submerged and overturned on top of Mr. Preecha. At first, Mr. Preecha was still conscious and tried to push himself out, but was unable to.

However, the initial rescue was hampered by water, mudslides, darkness, and equipment. Until the rescue team got a backhoe, they used it to lift the truck and pull Mr. Preecha out, but they could not save him. He died in the car.

This incident, the co-workers s
aid, was really unexpected because at first they drove along together while Mr. Preecha drove a truck carrying soil to fill the water pipe that was eroded by water and the water flowed into the villagers’ houses. But when they reached that point, the soil collapsed and Mr. Preecha’s car lost control and fell into the water. Everyone tried to get out to help but couldn’t because the truck ran over Mr. Preecha’s body.

Mr. Koo Kiat Wongfak, the deputy mayor of Pa Tan Nakrua Municipality, reiterated that this incident was a very sad event because even though it was after work, Mr. Preecha still worked with full willingness. From now on, the municipality will hold a meeting to find ways to compensate the family of the deceased.
