Bangkok: A thief who stole a delivery rider's bag and sold it online was arrested by police just two hours after the victim reported the theft.
According to Thai News Agency, the swift action by the Wang Thonglang Police Station led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Mr. Winai, also known as Rosat, who had stolen the bags from motorcycles parked in an apartment building in Soi Ladprao 124.
Pol. Col. Jesada Yangnok, Superintendent of Wang Thonglang Police Station, highlighted the emergence of a new crime trend involving the theft of delivery bags, which are crucial for riders' work. He emphasized the importance of vigilance among motorcycle riders, advising them to remove or securely lock their bags even during short stops and to avoid parking in isolated areas.
The incident took place at approximately 9:00 AM when two food delivery riders reported the theft of their LINE MAN and GrabFood bags. Police quickly reviewed CCTV footage, identifying a suspect wearing a black helmet and a green GrabFood jacket. The suspect was observed removing the bags, concealing one inside the other, and fleeing the scene.
Using CCTV footage to track his escape route, police traced the suspect to Soi Samakkhi Phatthana, Intersection 4, in the Hua Mak Subdistrict. By 2:50 PM, officers had apprehended Mr. Winai, recovering the stolen delivery bags and the motorcycle used in the crime. The operation concluded within two hours of the initial report.
Mr. Winai confessed to the theft and a background check revealed he had recently been released from prison for a similar offense. He admitted to planning to sell the stolen bags online. Consequently, police charged him with "theft using a vehicle to facilitate the commission of the crime, to transport the stolen property, or to escape arrest," and he was taken to Wang Thonglang Police Station for further legal action.
