Thomas Tuchel Downplays England’s World Cup Chances

Bangkok: Thomas Tuchel believes the England national team is not a favorite to win the World Cup. England manager Thomas Tuchel believes his "Three Lions" are not among the top favorites to win the 2026 World Cup, even before England fully enters the competition.

According to Thai News Agency, the England national team is training at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and played their final warm-up match before the 2026 World Cup, winning 3-0 against Costa Rica on June 10th. Their previous game was a 1-0 victory over New Zealand on June 6th.

Although many consider England one of the favorites to win the World Cup, Thomas Tuchel denies that, pointing out that the "Three Lions" are not top contenders because England have consistently experienced disappointment in the past, finishing 4th in the 2018 World Cup and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

However, Tuchel admitted that his goal is to win the World Cup. The first step is to dream big and set high goals, which brings a higher level of responsibility, dedication, and effort. But for now, he can only say that England is one of the teams hoping to win the World Cup, just like any other.

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, England is in Group L, playing their first match against Croatia on June 17th, followed by a game against Ghana on June 23rd, and concluding the group stage against Panama on June 27th.
