SEOUL, The South Korean baseball club Kia Tigers announced Tuesday their starting pitcher Wil Crowe will seek a second opinion on his ailing right elbow. The Tigers said Crowe was to travel to the United States later Tuesday for additional tests on his elbow. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club added they will make a decision on Crowe's status for the rest of the season depending on the results of new exams. The Tigers first removed Crowe from their active roster last Friday with what they called partial damage to his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. Crowe first complained of elbow pain after a bullpen session last Wednesday during the team's road trip to Daegu. He had the initial test at a clinic in the southeastern city that day and then visited two more hospitals in Seoul for further tests the following day. The Tigers said last week that Crowe would be reevaluated in two weeks before allowing the pitcher to go for a second opinion in the U.S. A UCL tear for pitchers require s Tommy John reconstructive surgery, which is followed by at least a year of rehab and recovery. Crowe, formerly with the Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, signed with the Tigers in January and was their Opening Day starter on March 23. After a couple of rocky outings to begin his KBO career, Crowe pieced together four consecutive starts in April, in which he did not allow an earned run. In his most recent start, Crowe pitched five shutout innings in a 10-2 victory over the Hanwha Eagles on May 4. Crowe is tied for the KBO lead with five wins and is ninth with a 3.57 ERA.
