Bangkok: The last day of the Songkran Festival at Sanam Luang is seeing an influx of tourists, despite the sweltering heat. As the day progresses, visitors are eagerly anticipating the evening’s highlight-a concert featuring famous artists, promising entertainment for all attendees.
According to Thai News Agency, the Songkran celebrations at Sanam Luang are part of the broader Songkran Festival 2025. This year’s festivities hold special significance as UNESCO has recognized Songkran as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.’ The event aims to elevate Thailand’s Songkran Festival into the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, positioning it as a global attraction.
Visitors to Sanam Luang have the opportunity to explore Songkran Square 5 Regions, where they can experience traditional Songkran customs from different parts of Thailand. The Southern region showcases shadow puppets and boats, the Northern region features lanterns and Tung, and the Northeast presents the Khaen and Phi Ta Khon, among other cultural displays.
In addition to the cultural showcases, the festival offers a temple fair atmosphere complete with sand pagoda building, a Ferris wheel, cotton candy, and classic games. The concert stage is being prepared for performances by four artists, ensuring entertainment for people of all ages.
The festival also boasts several photo-worthy landmarks. The Giant Songkran, a towering 10-meter landmark, provides a breathtaking view with Wat Phra Kaew in the background. The Overflowing Water Station offers a refreshing respite with a giant water tank available for play, free of charge throughout the day. Additionally, the Colorful Songkran Fountain, with its 15-meter high water jets and vibrant nighttime lights, presents an ideal spot for photos and creates an enchanting atmosphere for visitors.
