Bangkok: Tropical Storm “Bualoi” is anticipated to make landfall in northern Vietnam between September 28 and 29, bringing significant rainfall to Thailand. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for the impending weather, predicting heavy to very heavy rain across 39 provinces in the North, Northeast, East, and the western coast of the South, influenced by a robust monsoon trough and the storm’s periphery from September 28 to 30.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecast Division at the Meteorological Department, stated that Tropical Storm “Bualoi” is currently positioned over the central South China Sea. The storm exhibits maximum sustained winds of approximately 110 kilometers per hour and is progressing westward at around 30 kilometers per hour. Upon making landfall in northern Vietnam, it is expected to weaken, yet its impact will be significant due to the associated strong monsoon trough and southwest monsoon.
The storm’s influence will trigger heavy rain across upper Thailand, notably along its edge. The eastern parts of the northern, northeastern, eastern, and the western coasts of the southern regions are likely to experience substantial rainfall.
The provinces forecasted to encounter heavy rain from Tropical Storm “Bualoi” between September 28-30 include:
– Northern Region: Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Lamphun, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phetchabun, Uttaradit
– Northeastern Region: Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Roi Et, Yasothon, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Chaiyaphum
– Central Region: Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphanburi, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi
– Eastern Region: Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Chachoengsao, Saraburi
– Southern Region: Trang, Krabi
The potential for flash floods, mudslides, and river overflows is high in these areas, particularly in high-risk zones such as hillsides, near waterways, and low-lying areas.
Waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be moderate to strong, especially in the upper Andaman Sea, with wave heights reaching 2-3 meters. During thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters, prompting small boats to remain ashore.
