Washington: The world is watching the progress of negotiations between the United States and Iran after President Donald Trump requested amendments to the latest agreement, reiterating his crucial stance that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, the Iranian government has categorically denied rumors of the president's resignation, calling them fake news intended to create confusion at a critical juncture in the negotiations.
According to Thai News Agency, negotiations between the United States and Iran, which have been ongoing for several months, have recently entered a crucial phase after President Trump requested adjustments to certain details of the draft agreement, particularly those related to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy transport route, as well as measures concerning Iran's highly enriched uranium.
Iranian negotiators insisted they would not accept any agreement if their rights and interests were not adequately protected. Meanwhile, President Trump stated that the most important thing was a guarantee that Iran would not acquire nuclear weapons, adding that he saw no need to rush the signing and would only consider agreements that benefited the United States.
According to reports, the preliminary agreement sets a 60-day timeframe. If diplomatic negotiations proceed positively, the United States may ease some sanctions, allowing Iran access to billions of dollars in frozen assets. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) is currently awaiting final approval from both sides.
Meanwhile, rumors in the Middle East have intensified following reports that Iranian President Masoud Peseshkyan has submitted his resignation due to dissatisfaction with the alleged interference of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is accused of influencing the country's governance and foreign policy.
However, the Iranian government quickly denied the reports. Senior communications officials and government spokesmen confirmed that the news of the president's resignation was false, baseless, and an attempt by some parties to create division within the country and distort the atmosphere of negotiations between Iran and the United States at such a crucial time. They affirmed that President Peseshkyan continues to perform his duties as normal.
