Beijing: U.S. President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Zhongnanhai in Beijing for the second day today, before concluding his two-day official visit. President Trump expressed his expectations via the Truth Social platform early Friday, stating that relations with China would be stronger and better than ever before. While the visit was marked by formalities and business deals, the Chinese leader warned that inappropriate handling of the Taiwan issue could severely damage relations between the two countries.
According to Thai News Agency, in an interview on Fox News' Hannity Show, President Trump described the Chinese leader as warm but serious about business negotiations. He also revealed that China had agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, the first time in nearly 10 years. However, this figure was lower than market expectations of 500, causing Boeing's stock price to immediately fall by more than 4 percent.
President Trump stated that the United States and China share the common goal of not wanting Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to maintain stability in global shipping and energy transportation. The US leader added that the discussions resolved many issues that were too difficult for others to handle. This agreement comes amid efforts by both sides to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and to forge strategic cooperation between the two superpowers to address global crises affecting the wider economy.
The two leaders are scheduled to have tea and lunch together at Zhongnanhai before President Trump departs China.
