Oslo: U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction in a letter to the Norwegian leader, stating that since Norway did not award him the Nobel Peace Prize, he feels liberated to shift his focus from peace to pursuing control over Greenland.
According to Thai News Agency, President Trump addressed a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Kahr Stoere, stating that Norway's decision not to grant him the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, despite his claimed role in preventing eight wars, has influenced his stance on prioritizing peace. He indicated that while peace remains important, he will now consider other interests beneficial for the United States.
In this letter, sent by Trump last week and recently made public, he connects the Nobel Prize omission to his ambitions concerning Greenland. Trump criticized Denmark for its perceived failure to protect Greenland from other global powers like Russia and China and questioned Denmark's ownership rights over the territory. He argued that global stability is contingent on the United States having complete control over Greenland.
Prime Minister Stoere yesterday verified the letter's authenticity and clarified to Trump that the Nobel Prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee, not the Norwegian government.
Meanwhile, European Union leaders are seeking negotiation avenues with the U.S. government in light of Trump's threat to impose tariffs on imports from eight European countries opposing his Greenland acquisition plan. An EU Commission spokesperson emphasized that the EU's primary focus is on negotiation to prevent conflict escalation and avert tariffs. EU leaders are scheduled to convene in Brussels on Thursday to discuss potential responses after evaluating the U.S.'s reaction to the ongoing situation.
