Washington: Trump threatens to continue attacks on Iran if peace negotiations do not progress. The U.S. military revealed on Wednesday that it launched a new round of airstrikes targeting multiple locations in Iran overnight, as U.S. President Donald Trump warned of intensified attacks if the two sides fail to reach a peace agreement.
According to Thai News Agency, the U.S. Central Command announced that the strike had concluded, lasting approximately four hours after beginning shortly after midnight Tehran time. A message via the X platform stated that the targets included military surveillance systems, communications systems, and air defense bases across Iran.
The U.S. Central Command further stated that the attack was aimed at retaliating against Iran's continued and unjustified aggressive behavior. This attack marks the latest in a series of escalating armed clashes and risks igniting a full-scale war once again, after both sides had only recently agreed to a fragile ceasefire in early April.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran announced early Thursday that it had launched retaliatory attacks on 18 U.S. military targets located within air bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Meanwhile, Bahrain's Interior Ministry revealed that air raid sirens were sounded in the area as well.
Furthermore, Iran's Supreme Joint Command issued a warning to fire on any ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been nearly closed for months. Iranian local media reported that two ships had already been attacked. However, the US Central Command denied reports of the closure, stating that commercial vessels continue to pass through the strait normally despite Iranian threats. This aligns with President Trump's statement that several ships can pass through the strait without Iranian permission as part of covert military operations.
Despite the harsh and confrontational rhetoric from both sides, there are signs of ongoing diplomatic efforts. Iranian local media reported that a delegation from Qatar, acting as a mediator in negotiations between the US and Iran, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to begin discussions on the latest developments.
Regarding the economic situation, crude oil prices surged by nearly 100 baht per barrel after Donald Trump threatened to escalate the conflict, and prices continued to rise during early Asian trading on Thursday morning.
