Lopburi: An extraordinary sight has emerged in Lopburi province as the water level at the Pa Sak Chonlasit Dam has dropped, revealing the submerged "Ban Manaw Wan Old Community" and an ancient temple. This rare phenomenon offers an opportunity for visitors to explore an underwater city that has been hidden for 28 years.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pa Sak Dam was constructed following the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, to address flooding and drought issues. Since the dam's completion, the Manaw Wan Village, including its farmland and temple, has been submerged. During the dry season, as water is released, remnants of the old community become visible, drawing curious visitors who can take a boat trip from the freshwater beach area to witness the sights.
The boat journey, which lasts approximately 30 minutes, allows visitors to see the remains of past civilization, including old houses and a concrete bridge. Currently, the relocated Manaw Wan village thrives east of the dam, while the newly established Wat Kanthapruk temple preserves elements from the submerged temple.
Those interested in visiting are encouraged to do so before the expected return of monsoon rains in August.
