Uthenthawai:The Uthenthawai land dispute remains unresolved as the Uten Thawai Alumni Association plans to hold a seminar tomorrow, October 21, at Building 4 of Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern (Uten Thawai). The seminar, titled "Why is the Uten Thawai land so important To whom," aims to address the long-standing conflict over the land.
According to Thai News Agency, the land issue dates back to 1935 when Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern (RMUT Eastern) began leasing the land. The last lease expired on September 30, 2003, with an annual rent of 1,140,900 baht. Although an agreement was made to extend the eviction period until September 30, 2006, it was not adhered to.
In a Cabinet resolution from its 9th meeting of 2009, it was decided that RMUT Eastern must vacate the land and return it to Chulalongkorn University, compensating with an annual payment of 1,140,900 baht from October 1, 2006, onward until the land is fully returned. This decision was acknowledged by the Cabinet on March 30, 2010.
However, RMUT Eastern has yet to pay any compensation to Chulalongkorn University. Chulalongkorn University has affirmed in writing that RMUT Eastern must follow the resolution set by the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC). The university's Property Management Office has not engaged in any negotiations outside of this resolution.
