Bangkok: Vietjet Thailand reaffirms its role in connecting Thailand and Vietnam, celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The airline also announced plans to receive 50 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and carry 50 million passengers, expanding its network of direct flights from Thailand to Vietnam.
According to Thai News Agency, the Vietjet Group, led by Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairperson of Vietjet Group, and Mr. Woraneti Laphapang, Chief Executive Officer of Vietjet Thailand, participated in the 'Thailand-Vietnam Business Forum 2026.' This forum brought together leaders from the public and private sectors to promote economic cooperation, investment, and connectivity between the two countries, commemorating the anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Mr. Woraneti Laphapang, CEO of Vietjet Thailand, stated that the airline commenced operations in 2014, recognizing Thailand's potential as a regional air travel hub. Since then, the airline has achieved milestones, including serving over 50 million passengers in Thailand and expanding its fleet with plans to receive 50 Boeing 737-8 aircraft by 2028. This growth reflects passenger confidence and the airline's ability to meet the needs of travelers.
Leveraging its flight routes between Thailand and Vietnam, Vietjet Thailand plays a crucial role in connecting the tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange sectors of the two countries through its air travel network. Despite challenges from operating costs and geopolitical situations, air travel trends continue to grow. The International Air Transport Association forecasts global air passengers will reach 5.2 billion in 2026. Demand for travel between Thailand and Vietnam remains strong, with a 40% increase in passenger numbers on Thailand-Vietnam routes in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
Mr. Woraneti further stated that Vietjet Thailand is ready to be a driving force for bilateral cooperation under the Three Connects strategy, which includes supply chain connectivity, local economies, and sustainable development. The airline has upgraded its international flight network by launching direct flights from Thailand to key destinations in Vietnam, such as Bangkok-Hanoi, Bangkok-Da Nang, Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok-Phu Quoc, and Bangkok-Nha Trang.
Additionally, the airline is preparing to launch connecting flights between Vietjet and Vietjet Thailand to facilitate passengers' travel to a wider range of destinations. Passengers can purchase a single ticket and enjoy check-in and checked baggage services to their final destination, supporting the growth of tourism and business activities between Thailand and Vietnam.
