“View-Mew” Triumphs Propel Thai Badminton Stars to Quarterfinals at 2026 World Championships

New delhi: Kulavut Vitidsarn and Pornpawee Chochuwong have successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's and women's singles at the 2026 Badminton World Championships in India.

According to Thai News Agency, in the men's singles round of 16, "View" Kulavut Vitidsarn, ranked world number 2 and a former world champion in 2023 from Thailand, delivered a commanding performance against Garrett Ton, ranked world number 92 from the United States. Vitidsarn secured his place in the quarterfinals with a decisive 2-0 victory (21-10, 21-10). He is set to face Alex Lanier, the world number 10 from France, in the next round.

In the women's singles category, "Mew" Pornpawee Chochuwong, world number 10, showcased her remarkable skills by defeating Chen Yufei, world number 4 from China, with a thrilling 2-1 win (15-21, 25-23, 21-17). This victory marked Chochuwong's first triumph over Yufei in their last 11 encounters, propelling her to the quarterfinals where she will face Nozomi Okuhara, world number 11 and former world champion in 2017 from Japan.

In the mixed doubles category, "Bas" Dechapol Puavaranukroh and "Fame" Supisara Piewsampran, the world number 4 pair from Thailand, demonstrated their prowess by overcoming Yushi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobora, the world number 16 pair from Japan, with a score of 2-1 (17-21, 21-12, 21-17). They will next challenge Tom Giegel and Delphine Derroit, the world number 5 pair from France, in the quarterfinals.

However, the mixed doubles match saw "Omo" Parkpon Teeraratkul and "Popo" Sapsiree Taerattanachai, the world number 14 pair from Thailand, face a tough contest against Jiang Zhengpang and Wei Yaxin, the world number 2 pair from China. Despite a valiant effort, the Thai duo were unable to withstand the pressure and were eliminated from the tournament with a 0-2 loss (12-21, 17-21).
