Songkhla: Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor Matha, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister and Advisor to the Government's Special Representative Committee on Resolving Problems in the Southern Border Provinces, has emphasized the critical role of peace and security in addressing the ongoing insurgency in the southern regions of Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, during a meeting held at the Songkhla Provincial Hall, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor expressed that achieving peace is essential for any successful resolution to the insurgency affecting Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces. He highlighted that without a secure environment, efforts to resolve the conflict will face significant challenges.
Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor revealed that a committee has been established to integrate efforts across different sectors, including the Ministry of Interior, the military, and the police, to tackle the problem collaboratively. He mentioned that after gathering opinions and proposals from various provinces, these suggestions would be compiled and considered for further action.
Addressing inquiries about specific measures, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor reiterated the Prime Minister's desire for peace and security, stating that these elements are fundamental for progress. He suggested that the Prime Minister is likely to allocate budgets for development projects as per the proposals submitted.
When questioned about the framework for peace talks, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor indicated that Mr. Thanat Suwannanon, who heads the peace talks delegation for the southern border provinces, would lead negotiations early this month.
