Bangkok: The Pollution Control Department has issued a warning regarding a significant rise in PM2.5 levels anticipated between December 11-13. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities and avoid open burning during this period.
According to Thai News Agency, the Air Pollution Control Communication Center (APCC) has reported an increase in PM2.5 levels as of December 9, 2025. The data indicates that several areas, particularly in the Northeast and Bangkok, are experiencing air quality levels that exceed the standard (orange level).
In the Northeastern Region, provinces such as Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, and Yasothon have been identified as areas where pollution levels have surpassed the acceptable threshold. Additionally, Sukhothai in the Lower Northern Region and two locations within Bangkok and its surrounding areas have recorded air pollution levels above the standard.
The Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) has cautioned that the situation may worsen between December 11-13, 2025. The warning highlights Bangkok and its neighboring provinces, along with northeastern and eastern regions, as areas requiring close monitoring due to the anticipated spike in PM2.5 levels.
The public is being asked to cooperate with several measures to mitigate the impact of the pollution. Suggestions include refraining from burning activities in open areas, reducing the use of private vehicles in favor of public transportation, and taking health precautions, especially for vulnerable groups such as patients, children, the elderly, and pregnant women. People are also advised to avoid outdoor activities during periods of high pollution and to wear face masks properly if leaving home becomes necessary.
