Bang chang: The temple administrator of Wat Chulamani has publicly denied any involvement in the ongoing controversy concerning the creation of amulets at a famous temple in Amphawa. The administrators emphasize that they never requested anyone to create amulets and express their readiness for any investigation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wiwat Tomueang and Mr. Kanokdech Likitwattanaseth, both administrators at Wat Chulamani, addressed the recent online rumors that have connected their temple to the production of sacred objects. The administrators clarified that the temple has never authorized the creation of amulets and welcomed any scrutiny to verify the facts. They urged the public to discern between original reports and the interpretations made by individuals or media outlets.
Mr. Wiwat noted that the initial reports did not specify which temple was involved, leading him to believe it was unrelated to Wat Chulamani. However, as the rumors spread, many began associating the temple with the controversy, resulting in numerous inquiries. This has raised concerns about potential damage to the temple's reputation, especially with phrases like "famous Amphawa temple" being used ambiguously.
The administrators reiterated that Wat Chulamani has not commissioned any sacred objects since 2020, according to the temple's treasurer committee. Any sacred objects created previously were intended to raise funds for the restoration of religious buildings and charitable purposes, particularly in light of financial challenges faced by organizations after COVID-19.
The temple also addressed reports from 2021-2022 about individuals seeking permission to create sacred amulets. It was clarified that these requests were denied by the abbot, and no further developments have occurred since. The temple emphasized the importance of relying on verified information rather than speculation and called for evidence to support any claims made against them.
