Yala: Yala province has raised security measures to the highest level following a bomb attack targeting a teacher protection unit in the Raman district. The attack is believed to be the work of insurgent groups operating in the border region between the two southern provinces. Statistics show that this is the 13th bombing in the past four years.
According to Thai News Agency, an explosion in front of Ban Pulai School in Raman District, Yala Province, injured 10 people, including 9 police officers and 1 local civilian. Security forces assess that the attack was carried out by a group of insurgents operating in the border area between Baloh Subdistrict, Raman District, Yala Province, and Riang Subdistrict, Rueso District, Narathiwat Province, aiming to create ongoing unrest in the area. Authorities are currently gathering evidence to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, the Yala Provincial Police Commander ordered security personnel and all police stations to raise security measures to the highest level. He emphasized increasing the frequency of checkpoints and main inspection points to thoroughly inspect suspicious individuals, vehicles, and objects to prevent infiltration and the creation of unrest in urban areas, and to restore public confidence. Security agencies reported movement of high-ranking leaders traveling to meet with insurgent groups in Bannang Sata and Thanto districts. These leaders reportedly ordered accelerated military operations against government officials, but stressed the importance of avoiding casualties on their side. Additionally, movement of operational groups was detected in Ban Jarohpae, Thanto Subdistrict, and Ban Buathong, Ban Haeng Subdistrict.
A review of security-related case statistics in the area under the responsibility of Raman Police Station, Yala Province, reveals that from 2022 to the present, a total of 13 bombing incidents have occurred.
Regarding the incident where at least 10 assailants planted bombs at a biomass power plant on Highway 418, Pattani-Yala, in Nong Chik district, Pattani province, even though it's now the second day, authorities continue to cordon off the area and block Highway 418 in both directions. This is because after bomb disposal experts inspected the explosion site at the power plant yesterday, they found two bombs planted by the assailants and will inspect and clear the remaining eight sites today. Evidence found at the scene, including gas cylinder fragments and explosive devices, has been sent for forensic analysis to determine which group of assailants is responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, security forces continue to increase security measures, including setting up checkpoints on both main and secondary routes to search vehicles and suspicious individuals to prevent acts of unrest in the area. This follows intelligence indicating that insurgent groups remain active and are preparing to attack officials in retaliation and to create further violence in the southern border provinces.
