Yotchanan Schedules Meeting to Address Northeastern Farmers’ Concerns

Bangkok: Yotchanan has accepted the demands of the Northeastern Farmers' Assembly and scheduled a meeting for July 8th to address their problems. According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Yotsanun Wongsawat, along with the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Minister of Labour, and the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, received demands urging action to address the impacts on farmers' livelihoods. The meeting aims to follow up on these demands and determine a joint course of action.

Mr. Yotsanun Wongsawat, in his role as Chairman of the Committee for Resolving Problems of the Northeastern Farmers' Assembly (NEFA) and the Northeastern Farmers' Federation (NEFF), was accompanied by other ministers to receive a petition from representatives at the Government Complaints Center. The assembly and federation highlighted the urgent need for governmental intervention to improve the quality of life for farmers.

Approximately 150 representatives from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and the Regional Agricultural Extension Office (RAEO) submitted a letter to follow up on the Prime Minister's Order regarding the appointment of a committee to resolve these issues. They requested a meeting date, public representation in the committee, and information on government projects affecting farmers.

Mr. Yotsanan stated that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had tasked him with finding solutions for farmers' problems. The committee will address agricultural issues, career development, labor skills upgrading, and the impact of government policies. The meeting on July 8, 2026, at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, will focus on considering demands and determining solutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to listening to public opinions and resolving farmers' hardships through participatory mechanisms and cooperation among relevant agencies. This approach aims to ensure that people can pursue their livelihoods smoothly and enjoy an improved quality of life.
