Yotsanan Ushers in New Year with Alms-Giving and Market Visit

Bangkok: Yotsanan Wongsawat, the prime minister candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, commenced the New Year by offering alms to monks before leading party members on a visit to Ying Charoen Market. He aims to promote temples as hubs for cultural tourism and pledged to advance policies that bring hope to the people in 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, at 6:30 AM, Yotsanan, along with several parliamentary candidates, participated in a merit-making ceremony at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat Woramahawihan in Bang Khen. The ceremony included Mr. Chakraphong Saengmanee, Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party, and candidates for various Bangkok constituencies, as they collectively offered alms to 20 monks.

Post the ceremony, Yotsanan underscored the significance of alms-giving as a cherished Thai tradition that attracts tourists and fosters a sense of focus and refreshment. He highlighted the potential of temples as cultural tourism destinations, emphasizing their historical and architectural value. Improved transportation, he noted, could enhance accessibility to these sites, boosting tourism in the coming year.

Following the alms-giving, Yotsanan, accompanied by the candidates, visited Ying Charoen Market. There, he paid respects at the Chao Pho Somboon Shrine and engaged with vendors and shoppers. Vendors welcomed him warmly, presenting flowers, taking photos, and offering Thai sweets. The group later enjoyed a meal of pork leg rice and paid respects at the Brahma shrine within the market.

In his New Year address, Yotsanan expressed optimism, declaring 2069 a promising year. He emphasized the Pheu Thai Party's readiness to implement policies from February 8th, fostering hope and sustainable development for Thailand. With a focus on change, he assured the public of the party's commitment to progress and innovation.
