Amnat Charoen Governor Raises Alarm Over Alleged DSI Impersonation

Amnat Charoen: Amnat Charoen Governor secretly wrote a letter to DSI claiming to be threatening a former candidate in the Senate collusion case.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Thepsena, Governor of Amnat Charoen Province, penned a confidential and urgent letter to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The letter, marked No. Aj 0018.2/3 and dated May 5, 2025, raised concerns about a group pretending to be Department of Special Investigation (DSI) officials. The governor reported an incident in Mueang Amnat Charoen District where these individuals coerced two former Senate candidates into confessing to collusion.

Details reveal that on May 4, 2025, three men, driving a gray sedan with a red Bangkok license plate, allegedly approached Ms. Phaiwan Kaewpuang, a 57-year-old former Senate candidate. They claimed to be DSI officials, though they lacked uniforms or official identification. They allegedly cut power to Ms. Phaiwan’s CCTV cameras and pressured her to admit to collusion in senatorial elections, asserting that others had already confessed. Despite their insistence, Ms. Phaiwan refused to comply, doubting their authenticity.

Later that day, the same group reportedly approached Ms. Boonlom Wannapat, 65, another former Senate candidate. Similar to the earlier encounter, the men did not present any official identification. They attempted to elicit information by proposing to use a projector screen for explanation, but Ms. Boonlom declined, suspecting they were not genuine officials. Failing to obtain information, the group proceeded to Ms. Phisamai Khemthong’s residence, another former candidate, but left the premises after not finding her.

Amnat Charoen Province has reported the incident to the Ministry of Interior, emphasizing the need for vigilance. Local authorities, including the District Chief and Village Headmen, have been tasked with safeguarding residents’ rights and maintaining peace. They are also coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and protect citizens’ freedoms.
