“Anutin” Accepts Prachinburi Governor’s Apology, Confirms Advisory Group Has Been Cancelled

Bangkok: "Anutin" accepts Prachin Buri governor's apology for appointing a Chinese person as an advisor, saying that no one will do something like this again, confirming that this advisory group has been canceled, emphasizing that there will be no impact on the budget, pointing out that no disbursements can be made.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the situation following the Prachin Buri governor's gesture of apology. The governor presented a garland to Anutin, seeking forgiveness for the controversial appointment that had unsettled the Interior Ministry. Anutin clarified that while he wasn't personally uncomfortable, the governor's actions appeared inappropriate following Anutin's interview. The advisory appointments have since been annulled, with explanations provided for their cancellation.

The Ministry of Interior has instructed provincial governors nationwide to review and report back on their practices regarding consultant appointments. Anutin explained that this task falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Interior's Permanent Secretary, who oversees permanent civil servant operations. Anutin's role involves policy directives, whereas administrative actions remain within the purview of permanent civil servants.

In discussing the aftermath of the canceled appointments, Anutin revealed that the Prachin Buri governor had intended to boost the local EEC economy, which was the rationale behind the appointment. However, Anutin advised that informal consultations could suffice without formal appointments. He reassured that all appointments have been rescinded and expressed confidence that similar actions would not recur.

Anutin further stated that potential negative impacts on the government would only arise if appointees made false claims. He clarified that no salaries, meeting allowances, or travel expenses were involved, ensuring no budgetary harm. Anutin reiterated that formal advisor appointments should be avoided unless necessary, reflecting his policy stance.

Reporters noted that during Anutin Charnvirakul's visit to the ministry, Prachin Buri Governor Wirapong De-on welcomed him with a gesture of respect. Anutin responded with a friendly pat on the shoulder, and they conversed briefly before Anutin proceeded to his office.

The incident stemmed from Governor Wirapong's controversial decision to appoint a Chinese advisor, which faced significant public criticism. The backlash led to the cancellation of the appointment order, prompting the governor's apology to Anutin.
