Bangkok: The Prime Minister held discussions with the Chairman of the National People's Congress of China to promote bilateral cooperation and continue the 51st anniversary of Thai-Chinese friendship. Today at 9:30 AM Beijing time, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the People's Martyrs in Tiananmen Square before meeting with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People's Congress, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the Thai-Chinese friendship, which is entering its 51st year of diplomatic relations, and to promote cooperation, especially in new fields such as space, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, sustainable environmental protection, and to strengthen cooperation between the two parliaments to achieve concrete results that benefit the people of both countries.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister stated that Thailand and China will advance cooperation in four key areas:
1. Politics and Security: Increase high-level exchanges, establish a 2+2 cooperation mechanism between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, and jointly combat transnational crime and online scams.
2. Economy and Investment: Promote balanced trade, high-quality investment that creates jobs and added value in Thailand, as well as cooperation in science, technology, future industries, and infrastructure.
3. People-to-people relations: Promote tourism, culture, and media exchange to foster understanding and closeness between the Thai and Chinese people.
4. Regional cooperation: Supporting ASEAN's central role, cooperation in the Mekong River Basin, resolving regional issues through dialogue, and promoting peace in Myanmar.
The Prime Minister also encouraged increased legislative exchanges between the parliaments of both countries and invited the Chairman of the National People's Congress of China to visit Thailand, which, if it happens, would be the first visit to Thailand in 15 years.
The Prime Minister is confident that close cooperation between the Thai and Chinese governments and legislatures will create economic opportunities, enhance security, and strengthen regional stability in the long term.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the National People's Congress of China welcomed the successful first official visit to China as Prime Minister, including participation in the WAIC 2026 conference and the courtesy call on President Xi Jinping. Both sides will work together to translate cooperation into concrete actions for the benefit of the people of both countries.
The Chairman of the National People's Congress of China also stated that China is ready to support Thailand in its work and cooperation in modern times, especially in artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, space, health, as well as the environment and clean energy. Furthermore, China and Thailand will cooperate more closely on international platforms such as ASEAN-China and the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework, as well as upholding and protecting universal principles in accordance with the United Nations.
The Chairman of the National People's Congress of China also expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the two parliaments and hoped to jointly exchange ideas to improve environmental laws and sustainable development. He also extended his best wishes and an invitation to the Speaker and Vice-Speaker of the National People's Congress to visit China at the earliest opportunity.
