Anutin Charnvirakul Promotes “Thainess” and Elevation of OTOP as Thailand’s Brand

Nonthaburi: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has set out an ambitious vision to harness the essence of "Thainess" and elevate the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) initiative into a hallmark brand representing Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister, who also serves as Minister of Interior, recently inaugurated the OTOP Midyear 2026 event, emphasizing that the initiative transcends mere community product promotion. During the ceremony, Mr. Anutin highlighted OTOP as a vital cultural asset, underscoring its importance in showcasing Thai identity and creativity on the global stage. He fondly recalled his official visit to France, which showcased the "Royal Textiles to the World" exhibition, reflecting the international potential of Thai craftsmanship.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Anutin paid homage to the late Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha, before lauding the ongoing creativity displayed by Thai artisans. He noted that traditional craftsmanship holds significant value amidst the modern world's technological advancements. The Prime Minister also mentioned the growing popularity of the "Thai Silk, Wear it for Fun" initiative and the government's commitment to enhancing product quality to ensure sustainable community income.

Promoting cultural products, he stated, is integral to strengthening the Thailand brand. In a world dominated by technology-driven mass production, he argued, community products with their unique stories and wisdom are invaluable. He invited all Thais to participate in the OTOP Midyear 2026 event, viewing OTOP not just as a job creation platform but as a means to cultivate a new generation of Thai entrepreneurs capable of transforming local resources into a unique cultural capital.

Mr. Anutin reaffirmed the government's readiness to embrace modern technology to expand market channels for OTOP products, thereby promoting "Made in Thailand" as a mark of quality and pride. He encouraged citizens to support Thai artisans by purchasing OTOP products, emphasizing their role in showcasing the Thai identity globally.

The Prime Minister officially opened the OTOP Midyear 2026 event by placing a symbolic sign on the ceremonial platform, later visiting various booths including those by the Department of Business Development and the Ministry of Culture. The event, running from June 20-28, 2026, at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, is a major annual gathering organized by the Department of Community Development, featuring over 10,000 products rooted in local wisdom.
