Anutin Denies Allegations of Political Bias in Phuket and Songkhla Governor Transfers

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has firmly rejected accusations of politically motivated transfers involving the governors of Phuket and Songkhla. He emphasized that the decisions followed due process and dismissed claims of appointments being made under a so-called "blue regime," referring to the ruling political system.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the controversy surrounding the transfers, which some opposition members have described as a mere theatrical performance to favor individuals aligned with the current regime. When questioned about the transfer of the Phuket governor, Anutin cryptically remarked, "The world is a play, and in the final act, all the characters must die," suggesting that the political landscape is ever-changing and not tied to individuals.

The transfer of the Deputy Governor of Songkhla Province has stirred local sentiments, especially as he was credited with implementing a flood prevention system. The timing of his transfer, coinciding with the impending flood season, has raised eyebrows. Anutin assured the public that the administration's focus remains on national and public benefit, regardless of individual appointments. He stated that decisions are made cautiously, in line with policies, and that transfers remain a strategic tool to ensure effective governance.

Regarding the perception that the transfer of Mr. Theerapong Chuaychu, the former Deputy Governor of Phuket, back to his hometown was more of a promotion than a demotion, Anutin refuted this claim, urging the public to question such assumptions. He reiterated that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has the authority to reassign individuals to positions deemed necessary, especially in cases where no legal violations have occurred but a change is warranted to prevent potential damage.
