Phra nakhon si ayutthaya: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered an increase in water drainage from the eastern part of the area in a bid to alleviate the severe flooding affecting the region. During a visit to Wat Bandai Chang in Sena District, Anutin acknowledged the hardship caused by recent water management decisions and expressed his commitment to preventing similar issues in the future.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin engaged with the local residents, many of whom were stranded in boats due to the flooding of roads, orchards, farms, and houses. He expressed his delight at seeing the community despite the challenging circumstances and reiterated his commitment to providing assistance. Anutin stated that immediate relief efforts would be expedited by Ministers Paradorn and Surasak and announced monthly payments for those affected.
The Prime Minister highlighted his ongoing efforts since his tenure at the Ministry of Interior to develop flood management strategies to mitigate annual distress. He emphasized the allocation of funds to improve waterway management for the future benefit of the people of Thailand. Anutin assured that temporary assistance would be provided, particularly for households enduring extended flooding. He apologized for the distress caused and vowed to utilize all available resources for expedited water drainage.
While surveying the area from a helicopter, Anutin observed potential drainage space on the eastern bank and ordered immediate action to facilitate water flow from the western bank. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Colonel Thammanat Prompao is set to expedite a long-pending water drainage project from the Pa Sak River. Anutin also committed to completing several projects proposed by the Royal Irrigation Department to prevent future flooding.
Anutin apologized to the affected residents for the hardships caused by the prolonged flooding, which typically subsides by the end of October. He assured the community that measures would be taken to address water drainage issues through various channels, promising a resolution to prevent similar hardships.
Village representatives suggested additional water management measures to the Prime Minister, who pledged to implement these changes and expedite assistance. Anutin assured the community that a plan to complete the necessary projects would be in place by Tuesday.
