Bangkok: Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, chaired a cabinet meeting to address the internal dynamics within the Bhumjaithai Party following Anutin Charnvirakul's decision to reassume control of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). Pipat confirmed that all decisions were made in consultation with the Prime Minister.
According to Thai News Agency, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn provided insights before a cabinet meeting at Government House about Anutin Charnvirakul's supervision of the EEC Policy Office. Pipat explained that he had previously managed the EEC during Anutin's minority government. After the elections, Pipat returned as Prime Minister and continued to oversee the EEC. However, he realized that foundational legal issues from previous administrations had been resolved by the executive board. In consultation with the Prime Minister, it was agreed that the focus should shift to attracting investors to the EEC, leading to the decision for the Prime Minister to take over this responsibility.
Pipat noted the Ministry of Transport's involvement in significant projects supporting the EEC, suggesting that concentrating on the Ministry's initiatives would be more effective than managing dual responsibilities. He emphasized the Prime Minister's frequent international engagements as advantageous for negotiating with foreign investors to contribute to the EEC's development.
Addressing concerns about potential discord within the Bhumjaithai Party, Pipat reiterated his commitment to party unity and national interests. He clarified that discussions with the Prime Minister preceded the transition of EEC oversight, underscoring the open communication within the party. Pipat emphasized the collaborative relationship between himself and Anutin, ensuring that all decisions are made with transparency and mutual understanding.
