Arresting a thief who went around stealing drain covers, claiming that the local spirits told him to do it.

Metropolitan Police detectives arrested a thief who was stealing manhole covers in hospitals. He claimed that he did it because the local spirits told him to steal the covers before selling them to get money for daily expenses. Police arrested Mr. Surasit or Big Sathorn, aged 30, who was charged with 'nighttime theft by disguising himself or pretending to be another person, disguising his face, or doing something else to prevent his face from being seen or recognized, in a residence, government office, or place provided for public services that he entered without permission, or hiding in such a place by using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or taking the property away or to avoid arrest,' along with 3 items of evidence: 1. A gray sleeveless shirt (seized from the suspect's room), 2. A pair of brown shorts (seized from the suspect's room), and 3. A black Honda Wave motorcycle (seized from in front of the suspect's room). This case was caused by the suspect who rode a motorcycle around to commit theft until he saw an opportunity and committed the crime at a hospital in the Phaya Thai area. Upon arrest, the suspect confessed that he was the perpetrator, claiming that a local spirit had told him to steal a manhole cover at that location. He then sold it for 200-300 baht to use in his daily life. From checking Mr. Surasit's criminal record, it was found that he had 3 cases against him. He was then sent to the investigation officer at Phaya Thai Police Station to proceed with legal action and related matters. -414-Thai News Agency Source: Thai News Agency
