Bangkok: "Chatchart," candidate number 9, is spearheading initiatives in Songwad and Pak Khlong Talat to advance Bangkok Creative IP, with the objective of developing 55 creative districts and generating new revenue streams for Bangkok's residents. A city mascot competition is also proposed to cultivate unique neighborhood identities.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt, a Bangkok gubernatorial candidate, along with his "Bangkok on Work" team, campaigned in the Ratchathewi, Samphanthawong, and Phra Nakhon districts. His policies focus on leveraging cultural capital and local identity to create economic value, aiming to upgrade infrastructure and community networks to transform old neighborhoods into economic engines for Bangkok.
During his visit to Songwad, Mr. Chatchart engaged with Mr. Kiatwattana Srijanwanphen, known as "Uiy Play Art House," to discuss promoting entrepreneurs and emerging artists. He emphasized developing "creative districts" as a mechanism for income distribution and building community-based economies across Bangkok.
Mr. Chatchart revealed that a key policy is establishing "Bangkok Creative IP," a platform for the city's intellectual property. This initiative aims to commercialize Bangkok's identity through licensing systems, connecting creators with manufacturers, investors, and brands to develop products and services that generate income for creative workers and communities.
Additionally, plans include a "Bangkok Mascot" competition to create a city symbol, allowing emerging artists to showcase their talents. Private companies can further develop the mascot commercially, inspired by the model used in Kumamoto City, Japan.
Mr. Chatchart highlighted that over the years, Bangkok has collaborated with communities, artists, and entrepreneurs to develop more than 55 creative areas, attracting tourists and generating income for local businesses. Examples include Songwad, Talat Noi, Pak Khlong Talat, Hua Takhe, Bang Phlat, and Charoen Krung 103.
The "Bangkok Working" team aims to elevate model neighborhoods by creating unique brands and identities for each area, leveraging cultural capital and community history to develop distinctive tourism experiences. This includes supporting specialized crafts and sponsoring festivals and creative activities throughout the year.
A key objective is to upgrade infrastructure to be walkable and convenient for tourism, involving improvements to sidewalks, signage, public water stations, and waste sorting points, while connecting walking, cycling, and public transportation systems.
Mr. Chatchart reiterated his support for forming local business groups to foster long-term cooperation. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will assist in facilitating public spaces, organizing activities, transportation, and ensuring nighttime safety.
After completing a painting assignment, Mr. Chatchart and his team traveled to Pak Khlong Talat by Chao Phraya Express Boat, accompanied by "Ajarn Nong" Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supicha Towivich, the community architect behind Pak Khlong Talat's revitalization, and the mascot "Nong Dok," who greeted the public and business owners.
