Bangkok: A recent survey has revealed a significant preference among Bangkok residents for independent candidates over those affiliated with political parties in the upcoming gubernatorial and city council elections.
According to Thai News Agency, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) conducted a poll on May 25-26, 2026, among 1,310 eligible voters in Bangkok, spanning all 50 districts. The results indicated that 64.96% of respondents would prefer to vote for an independent candidate for the Bangkok governor, as opposed to one affiliated with a political party.
The survey also explored voting intentions for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council. It found that 48.47% of participants leaned toward voting for independent candidates without political party ties. In contrast, 33.21% expressed a preference for candidates associated with political parties. Additionally, 11.60% would opt for independent candidates supported by political parties, while 6.72% remained unsure.
When asked about their inclination to vote for candidates from the same or different political parties for both governor and council positions, 53.97% indicated a preference for candidates from different parties or groups. Meanwhile, 36.80% showed a tendency to support candidates from the same political faction, 9.08% were undecided, and 0.15% did not respond or showed no interest in the matter.
