Bangkok:In preparation for the 2026 IMF-World Bank meetings, the Tourist Police have demonstrated their readiness with a strategic deployment of personnel, smart operational vehicles, and surveillance drones. This initiative emphasizes safety, uninterrupted travel, and minimal disruption to the public.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Pongsayam Meekhantong, Commander of the Tourist Police, led the readiness inspection at the Tourist Police Division 1 headquarters in Bangkok. Joined by Pol. Maj. Gen. Surapong Thaiprasert and other senior officers, the ceremony marked the deployment to ensure security and facilitate the participation of attendees at the event, scheduled to take place from October 12-18, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
This preparation aligns with the policies of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Police General Samran Nualma, emphasizing resource integration, proactive crime prevention, and facilitating travel. The focus is on ensuring the smooth running of the conference while allowing daily life to continue normally.
The Tourist Police Command has dispatched patrol officers, vehicles, and technology to enhance security in tourist areas and conference-related locations. Bicycle and car patrols increase patrolling efficiency in high-traffic areas, while six operational vehicles, including drones, support image acquisition and situation monitoring.
The use of drones expands aerial surveillance capabilities, allowing for timely incident responses and adherence to safety measures. This integration of technology with ground patrols enhances the Tourist Police's proactive crime prevention efforts.
Hosting the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 is a significant opportunity for Thailand to showcase its organizational capabilities and readiness in security and hospitality. The Tourist Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of conference participants and tourists, while minimizing impacts on public travel and daily life.
The public is encouraged to welcome international visitors warmly and help create a positive image for Thailand. For assistance or to report suspicious activities, the Tourist Police hotline 1155 is available 24/7.
