Prime Minister Orders Swift Flood Recovery and Preparations for Future Rain

Hanoi:The Prime Minister has directed accelerated recovery efforts in flood-stricken areas and initiated preparations for impending rainfall, expressing concern for 14 southern provinces.

According to Thai News Agency, Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a meeting at the DDPM headquarters to assess the flood situation. He instructed the governors of Chachoengsao and Prachinburi to expedite assistance in areas still flooded. In regions where the water has receded, he ordered comprehensive cleanup operations to ensure residents can safely return to their homes. Anutin emphasized the importance of preparing for potential new flooding, particularly in the 14 southern provinces, and called for a meeting with the governors of the lower southern provinces this afternoon.

During a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command, Anutin noted that while the initial flooding has subsided, some areas remain at risk due to their geographical features. He stressed the need for relevant agencies to address these specific challenges and urged the governors of Chachoengsao and Prachinburi to mobilize resources to aid residents in areas where drainage is incomplete.

Anutin highlighted the ongoing need for assistance even after floodwaters recede, including helping people return to their homes and managing debris. He called for large-scale cleaning operations and continuous monitoring for disease outbreaks or health issues resulting from the floodwaters.

He also emphasized the importance of restoring essential services, such as waste management, water, electricity, and transportation systems, and ensuring that relief payments are distributed rapidly. Anutin urged affected provinces to quickly identify eligible recipients for relief funds and submit their lists to the DDPM promptly.

All agencies have been instructed to closely monitor events and weather forecasts, especially in the 14 southern provinces, including Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan. Anutin thanked all agencies for their continued support and coordination to ensure public safety and convenience.

This afternoon, Anutin, along with Deputy Minister of Interior Jetseth Thaiseth, will travel to Pattani province to meet with governors of neighboring provinces. They aim to discuss contingency plans and gather support requests from the provincial governors, as organized by the Ministry of Interior.
