Bangkok: Lung cancer has claimed the life of Harang Thuraphol, Member of Parliament for Udon Thani Constituency 3 of the Bhumjaithai Party, at the age of 69. Harang, who had been receiving treatment for his illness, passed away peacefully.
According to Thai News Agency, Harang's wife, Mrs. Panyasiri Thuraphon, who serves as the Mayor of Chiang Wang Subdistrict, Phen District, Udon Thani Province, shared a heartfelt post on social media. The post included a picture of Harang cycling and waving, accompanied by a message of love and condolences. She announced that Harang passed away on July 20, 2026, at 8:15 AM, describing him as "our village man, our great Bodhi tree."
Reports indicate that Harang Thuraphol was hospitalized for treatment of lung cancer, which he had been battling since his election campaign. Due to his illness, he was unable to attend the parliamentary vote for Prime Minister Anutin. Following his passing, his body has been transported to his home for religious ceremonies.
Harang Thuraphol was born on April 1, 1957, and had a long political career. He served as the mayor of Chiang Wang Subdistrict Administrative Organization for five terms and was a two-term MP for Udon Thani's Constituency 3. Initially running for parliament in 2007 under the Chart Thai Party, he was unsuccessful. However, he later joined the Thai Sang Thai Party and won the seat for Udon Thani Constituency 3 in the 2023 elections. Harang subsequently joined the Bhumjaithai Party and was re-elected, serving until his passing.
